Nearly three decades after the witchy charm of the original, Practical Magic 2 sees the Owens sisters—Sally and Gillian—returning to the screen with their signature blend of magic, sisterhood, and mid‑night margaritas. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles, and both have taken on producing duties alongside Denise Di Novi, ensuring the sequel maintains the spirit of the beloved original. The screenplay comes from Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first film’s script, this time collaborating with Georgia Pritchett, while Susanne Bier takes the helm as director.

Although the sequel’s story details remain tightly under wraps, primary sources confirm that the plot will closely adapt Alice Hoffman’s novel The Book of Magic, continuing the Owens’ saga years after the events of the first film. This installment is said to be faithful to both the characters and chronology, drawing on Hoffman’s narrative to propel the family’s magical legacy forward.
The cast blends returning favorites and exciting new faces. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are confirmed to return as the eccentric aunts Frances and Jet. New actors include Joey King—reported to play Sally’s daughter—alongside Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod, each joining the Owens’ expanding magical universe.
Production is already underway: filming began in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England, with Simon Duggan handling cinematography. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock even shared on-set snapshots they captioned “The witches are back,” signaling a joyful reunion of the Owens sisters.

The sequel is officially set to be released on September 18, 2026, promising to land just in time for autumn witchy vibes. A teaser from Warner Bros., voiced by Bullock and Kidman, cast a playful spell: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew… Something old and something new… Let the spell begin to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.”
Although plot specifics are still hidden, the combination of faithful source adaptation, returning characters, fresh magical kin, and seasoned filmmakers suggests that Practical Magic 2 will be a heartfelt revival. Fans of the original’s cozy dark fantasy should prepare to be delighted once again by the enchantingly charming—and enchantingly witchy—Owens family.
