Taboo – Season 2 (2025)

Taboo is a dark historical drama that follows the mysterious return of James Keziah Delaney to London in 1814 after being presumed dead for over a decade. The story begins with James arriving just in time for his father’s funeral, immediately drawing attention and suspicion from the East India Company, the British Crown, and even his own family. With a haunted past, tribal tattoos, and unsettling silence, James is a man transformed by his years in Africa, and no one is sure whether he’s come home for revenge, redemption, or both.

Upon learning that he has inherited a small but strategically critical piece of land called Nootka Sound, James sets into motion a ruthless plan to build a trading empire. Nootka, though small, sits at the center of a trade war between Britain and America, making James a powerful and dangerous obstacle to the interests of both governments and the East India Company. Rather than sell the land, he leverages it to build influence, outwit his enemies, and manipulate the empire from within.

The series paints London as a rotting city of corruption, with secrets buried beneath every corner. From the opium trade and human trafficking to espionage and political sabotage, Taboo immerses viewers in a world where power is everything and trust is rare. James navigates this chaos with brutal cunning, often resorting to violence or blackmail, but also showing moments of unexpected vulnerability—especially when it comes to his half-sister, Zilpha.

Haunted by visions, whispers, and memories, James often seems to straddle the line between man and myth. His experiences in Africa left him deeply changed, physically and spiritually. Whether these visions are psychological trauma or supernatural insight is never fully explained, but they contribute to the show’s eerie, gothic tone. His connection to mysticism sets him apart from his enemies, making him unpredictable and dangerous.

Zilpha, caught between loyalty to her husband and forbidden feelings for James, becomes a tragic figure in his orbit. Their complicated and taboo relationship adds emotional weight to the story and further isolates James from conventional society. Around them, a growing group of allies and enemies jockey for control, but few can match James’s ability to think several steps ahead.

As the season progresses, James builds his own company, forges unlikely alliances, and confronts enemies on every front. Each episode layers new intrigue, slowly revealing more about his past and his deeper motivations. In the end, Taboo is a tale of survival, vengeance, and rebellion against empire, wrapped in an atmosphere of darkness, secrets, and relentless ambition.
